Paityn's Nursery

Paityn's nursery is one of my new favorite things! It all started when my cute friend in our ward offered so kindly to make me a quilt! I met up with her and she let me choose from her amazing fabric collection and quilt patterns. I chose the Ruby collection by Camille Roskelley. I am in LOVE!
Thanks Laura for being so sweet and generous. You are so talented and I feel blessed to have you in my life.
My mom is next to thank! She bought most of the furniture in the nursery and bought all of the matching fabric to finish the quilt, crib bedding, changing table cover, lamp cover, pillows, curtains, etc. Thanks mom you are an ANGEL and I am so blessed to call you my mom!
Last but not least... Thanks to my sweet husband for refinishing all of my garage sell finds and painting SO much! He is AMAZING!
Our cute matching rocking chairs... Both garage sell finds Mine- $15 Paityn's- $2 and it plays music!:) We found the cushions for mine at Walmart in the Lawn & Garden Section. My mom had Paityn's little pillow made.

The cute crib and banner that says "Paityn"

Changing table, crib, collage.

Her little collage with our baby pictures and some of Paityn's, temple picture, favorite quote, and empty frame... I gotta figure out where I print 12X12.

My favorite thing! Her cute book shelf and magnet board. The shelves were garage sell finds for $5 and Josh repainted them.

The DARLING quilt Laura made for us.

Dresser (the most expensive thing in the whole nursery and we bought it wholesale!:)

The very best part is the sweet baby girl that is here and healthy to enjoy it! We feel so blessed.

Paityn Becky Southwick

August 31, 2012 was the happiest day of our lives! I want to share Paityn's very detailed birth story so that I can remember all the little details when I tell her one day... so bear with me!
August 30th was a very LONG day. It was three days after my doctor had "stripped my membranes" and I was told that if that was going to work it would happen by Wednesday night. It was now Thursday of the NEXT WEEK and I was so discouraged and uncomfortable. For the last two weeks at our doctors appointments I was told that the baby was "VERY low" and that I was dilated to a 2 and 80% effaced. Even though I was only 38 weeks I was ready! :)
Thursday night Josh and I spent the day at my moms and the evening at his parents house. I had tried everything from sitting on an exercise ball to walking til I was exhausted! I decided to lightly bounce on my in-law's trampoline to see if that would put me in labor... LOL
Well that must have done the trick! When we got home that night Josh told me he would have a little "sleepover' in the downstairs of our townhouse. I had been sleeping on the couch because my back hurt so bad and it was the only way I could get comfortable. I fell asleep on the couch with my husband's bed next to me on the floor. I woke up at 11:15 in a panic. Josh was in the kitchen making a bowl of chili and I flew up and looked at him with my eyes wide opened screaming my water just broke! I was shocked because you hear that only happens in the movies... I was waiting for the contractions to come for day but they never did and then BAM! My water broke and I was in labor.
Josh didn't believe me... but once I convinced him we were on our way to the hospital.
I started having pretty good contractions when we arrived and received an epidural shortly after. I was in HEAVEN! I tell everyone that the whole labor and delivery thing is a piece of cake! Those epidurals are AWESOME!
All went well and at 9:37AM the next morning our little precious Paityn arrived. She was 6 pounds 12 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. She stole our hearts the second we heard that cry. I thank Heavenly Father for her everyday and feel so blessed to be her mom! Watching Josh as a dad melts my heart everyday. He is so gentle and spoils her so much and I LOVE watching him. While we were at the hospital one of the nurses told me that most new dads are cute when no one is around but she admired how Josh didn't care who was watching he was loving on our sweet baby and talking to her. She said he was the cutest new dad she had ever seen.
I love having our little family and can't wait to keep making so many fun memories together. I am so thankful for eternal families.
People say you forget how sick you are while you are pregnant... I don't think I believe that but I will definitely say as sick as I was... this baby girl is so worth it! I would do it all over again if it meant that I get to keep her! Here are a few of the MANY pictures we have of our first month together.

She is beautiful!

Going home from the hospital

She loves her Binky!

Her "newborn" clothes were HUGE on her.

Those hands are always by her face...

Holding my finger so tight

Major Changes

Josh and I have been experiencing some major changes in the last couple of weeks. Not only are we preparing to have a baby but I am changing jobs and Josh is thinking about changing his major. I left Advocate Hospice after almost three years there. I have the opportunity to go from working with one sister (Lindsey) to working for another sister (Colette). Change is scary but I am SO EXCITED for this change. Colette is one amazing business woman and when she offered me a position to come and work for her I couldn't resist that opportunity. I have already learned so much about hard work and customer service from her and I have only had a little training. I am so excited to be her new assistant. Josh just finished up with his pre-reqs for dental school (with wonderful grades I must brag) and has been doing some major soul searching... He is still deciding but is probably going to change from Dental to Construction Management. It is a huge jump but I am completely confident in him and know that he will be successful in whatever he does in life. I told him I support him as long as he is doing something that he loves. I say that sounding like a great wife but I probably wouldn't be that supportive if he were older... He is pretty far ahead of the game with his schooling so he has some time to make some decisions. I am just happy that he decided now and not in a few years! :) A facebook friend posted this quote and it is exactly what I needed to hear! "Change is uncomfortable. But those who strive to constantly improve, change is necessary." -Unknown
I pray that these changes will all be smooth for us!

July 4, 2012

Josh and I had an interesting 4th of July this year. It started out great with our families. We spent some time refinishing some garage sale finds for the nursery the night before and then spent the night at my mom's house. We spent the afternoon with Josh's family and planned to be there to see fireworks etc. I felt so hot and uncomfortable but I figured it was part of being 31 weeks pregnant in July. I told Josh that I wasn't feeling well and went to take a nap. I called him a few hours later crying in pain. I have never experienced this kind of pain in my life. We went to McKay-Dee Hospital and they sent us to the Labor and Delivery. They hooked me up to some monitors and couldn't seem to find the baby's heart beat. We love Modern Family on ABC and I couldn't help but think of Phil Dunphy's comment about when you are flying and there is turbulence you look to the flight attendant and their facial expression will tell you if you should be concerned... Well our nurse was our "flight attendant" and we were both TERRIFIED! Finally she was able to pick up baby Paityn's heart beat and make sure she was okay. The pain was causing me to vomit and start to have contractions so we spent most of the night in Labor and Delivery trying to manage the pain. Finally at 1:00AM they took us to a quiet room and there we stayed for the next 2 nights. I finally passed two kidney stones and was able to come home. I have to say that I love my OB/GYN more than I think is normal... When she came into my room Thursday morning to check on me I started crying cause I was so happy to see her and knew that she would make sure that I was well taken care of.  If anyone is planning on having a baby soon I would highly recommend Dr. Margit Lister at Wasatch OB/GYN. I am praying that all works out and she is around to deliver this baby when it's time. This stay also made me super excited that I am having my baby at McKay-Dee because their Nurses and CNA's were absolutely WONDERFUL! I had to share this picture because it shows how freaking spoiled I am. Josh would not leave my side while I was there and sacrificed so much sleep to help make me more comfortable. I'm not sure how I got so lucky but I am super glad that he is my partner in parenting (and life)! :)
